Steve Anderson leads the Planning Division, which oversees all planning, scheduling,
and bus stop infrastructure for Palm Tran.
In his career, Steve has combined passion for transit with a dedication to the improvement
of the customer experience. Mr. Anderson began his transportation planning career as
an intern with Tindale-Oliver & Associates in 2006 before landing at the South Florida
Regional Transportation Authority, the operators of Tri-Rail, in 2009. At SFRTA he led the GIS
(Geographic Information Systems) and shuttle bus teams, winning a COMTO (Conference
of Minority Transportation Offi cials) Multimodal Innovation Award in 2011 for support
for the Opa-Locka Shuttle Bus routes, which led to a 30% increase in bus ridership in the
community. In addition to serving as COMTO Chapter Treasurer (2009-2012) for the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of COMTO, he
served two terms as a Transit Cooperative Research (TCRP) Ambassador.
In 2015, he joined Palm Tran. As Senior Planner, he laid the groundwork for future Palm Tran success, managing three Transit
Development Plan (TDPs) securing over $1.4 million in MPO infrastructure grants for new bus shelters, while improving
Palm Tran’s planning process and strengthening stakeholder relationships. He was promoted to Transit Planning Manager
in 2018, and was heavily involved in the two-year transit network redesign, dubbed the Route Performance Maximization
(RPM) project, successfully delivering the RPM as Project Manager in Fall 2018. The RPM improved on-time performance by
10% and increased frequency on half the bus routes while providing better access to key destinations such as employment
centers, colleges and rail stations.
In 2019, Steve was a co-winner of Palm Beach County’s coveted 2019 Golden Palm award for his role as RPM Project
Manager. Named Interim Director in May 2019, leads on several initiatives including long-range and short-range planning,
infrastructure improvements such as Palm Tran’s bus shelter program which will expand and replace an aging shelter
Steve is a proud graduate of the University of Florida, receiving both a Bachelor’s Degree in History (B.A, 2003) and a
Master’s Degree in Urban/Regional Planning (M.A, 2010). He enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading maps,
and playing sports of all kinds.
