Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet)
Kate Lyman is a senior planner and project manager at TriMet with 13 years of experience in transit and transportation planning. She has worked at TriMet since 2014 and in that time has worked as both a service planner and a capital projects planner. She recently served as the project manager for the MAX Red Line Extension and Reliability Improvements project, TriMet’s first major capital project designed to improve sections of the existing light rail system. This project is a $206M capital investment that will improve the long-term reliability of the MAX light rail system and double the service frequency in the westside of the Portland region. Kate also has experience working on the bus network, including work on developing TriMet’s Non-Diesel Bus Plan as well as the Division Transit Project, TriMet’s first bus rapid transit line. Prior to joining TriMet, she spent seven years as a consultant transportation planner where she worked on long-range transit and transportation system plans as well as environmental documentation for transit and highway projects. Kate holds a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Whitman College. She regularly commutes with her young daughter on transit and by bicycle and is passionate about making it easier for more people to do that.
