Our inboxes have been filled lately with notices of webinars regarding transit’s response to COVID-19. This session is different. We’ll hear from service planners and schedulers who crafted the initial cutbacks and subsequent restoration of service. How did they develop and implement the plans and schedules in an environment that was changing daily? What lessons can they share from this unprecedented time?

The need to understand how operations are going in the field has never been more important. Historically, transit planners have focused on public outreach to inform decision making but have often overlooked “InReach” as part of the planning process. This session includes four different perspectives on incorporating operator input into service planning projects and initiatives. These case studies will provide strategies that can be applied as we all look for ways to gather more information from the front lines to adapt service to ever changing conditions.

The Houston Metro bus network reimagining inspired many similar efforts across the country, and the results are coming in. We will hear reimagining results from two mid-sized agencies, along with use of location-based data and community input regarding what makes a transit option competitive to guide a reimagining effort. The board member, who more or less started it all, will reflect on when a redesign or a traditional Comprehensive Operations Analysis (COA) is the best choice to improve bus service.

Is the only way to search the attendee list by name? Would be great to be able to filter by whether someone works for a transit agency, other provider, manufacturer, technology company, etc. Would also be great to somehow be able to sort and search by lcoation/region.
Our traditional registration list by organization is available on apta.com here: https://www.apta.com/conferences-events/sustainability-multimodal-planning-workshop/registration/
Thank you for your comment, you may now also search by sponsor.
I don't see my name listed in the attendees section.
You are listed in the speakers section
Will the sessions begin showing here at 11am Eastern time, or do we have to click on the "Watch Live" button then?
A Watch Now button will appear shortly before the broadcast time.
where is it? It is now shortly after the broadcast time?
I don't see it either.
Imagine you saw the broadcast about five minutes after the hour? Great remarks by both Paul and Nuria. You can also go back and watch later! 'See you' at various sessions later!
Yes, thanks, I got in pretty quickly after 8am
Is there a lobby or a "break room" or anywhere we can go, primarily, to test the software and our connection, but secondarily, to perhaps visit with others?
Under Networking there are virtual meeting rooms
Thank you Andrew!
Yes! Be sure to schedule 'virtual' visits with attendees and speakers!
The Watch Live isn't active
For me either.
Same here.
Ditto
Ok, I'm glad it's not just me - thought something needed installing.
Same here.
I'm now in, but session hasn't started yet. Try refreshing your window if you can't click through.
So how do we get to the opening session?
watch live button? but nothing happened when i pressed it!
same. i think they must be running a little bit behind. sounds like it should switch to "Watch Now"
Watch Live now works for me. session just began!
I just tried clicking again, it seems to be working now. In a waiting room with jazz playing.
Great question; I'm also struggling!
Watch Live is up everyone!
I keep refreshing the browser, but that doesn't seem to help!
Same here. Hit “watch live” but nothing happens
Hi - Sorry for the inconvenience. It should be working now. Please let me know if the issue persists.
This is a difficult first challenge at 8am PT
I'm having the same issue.

Hi - Sorry for the inconvenience. It should be working now. Please let me know if the issue persists.
Morning, folks! Yes, the live feed isn't working on my end either. Is there a Zoom link or another link I can use to access the live feed?
Hi - Sorry for the inconvenience. It should be working now. Please let me know if the issue persists.
It started working for me when I clicked "Watch Live"
Though not starting content yet
Chage browsers... It wasn't working in Firefox for me, but I switched and it works fine.
It might be a browser popup issue? I switched from Safari to Chrome and now it works!
Thank you for the confirmation. Enjoy the event.
the Watch Live function on my end is not yet working... is there a connection issue somehow?
Hi - Sorry for the inconvenience. It should be working now. Please let me know if the issue persists.
Working for me now!
Great. Enjoy the event!!!
I'm still unable to see the video...do we need to be in a specific browser?
no NOW button has popped up to let me in
Try the watch live at the top
Will these presentations be sent out for distribution from the conference? The actual power points?
Hi Molly - Might be good to reach out to the presenters and directly ask for content you want access to. The video recordings will be available, but we didn't ask presenters for actual PPT files given the virtual programming format.
Hello, attendees! Please be sure to log-in to the virtual conference platform via chrome if you can. I tested both earlier, and chrome is much more compatible. See you around 'virtually' today / tomorrow. Thank you for joining us!
I have changed my permissions in chrome, restarted, tried other browers - still not able to view the video. Can someone contact me to assist?
I will give you a ring. What is your phone?
561-676-4938. Thanks!
Or better yet - call my cell, 312.898.5917
Can someone provide a dial in - one attendee colleague said his browser is too old to support the conference website and he can't update it w/o IT permissions, etc. He'd like to listen in instead.
Hi Melissa. I am on it. If you are referring to David Snell, then I am trying to get that information for him.
Regards,
Is there a dial-in option more generally for audio? Thank you!
yes
thx!!
Is anyone else having trouble with the audio? I am hearing weird echoes.
Were there any special provision for ADA boardings with the front doors were closed on the bus
how do I access the rooms for the tabletop discussions later this morning? Thanks.
There will be a slide on the player with links to the tabletops. You may also go to the session listing and there will be a watch now button for each tabletop.
It's a nice touch to haver personal trainer show us how to do stretches. However, her camera is basically cut off the part where we need to see how she's doing the exercise in order follow.
This stretch break is quite neat! We will have her adjust camera for the next one!
test
Interface for virtual conference is good. Good job putting it together. Thanks.
Thank you. We're the test group for APTA. We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and participation. We also appreciate your patience with us on the technology-front and overall platform.
This is my first virtual conference. While it's not the same as in-person, it is far better than I had imagine in terms of the set up. However, I had made an appointment with a vendor and when I went into the room, no one was there (showing offline). Is this expected?
Thank you for your comments, David and I apologize you experienced a missed appointment. I will reiterate with our sponsors on maintaining scheduled appointments.
I agree. This is very well put together!
Hello David, can you let me know which sponsor it was so I can reach out them to get in touch with you.
Thank you, David, for your feedback, and thank you Jose for filtering to the right sponsor.
I am noticing that people are asking questions in a session using both the hand symbol and the running chat box, but I think APTA is only
currently addressing those asked through the "hand"
Specific questions are being monitored through the Ask a Question button. We try to monitor the chat for relevant questions as best as possible.
yes - be sure to ask your questions in the session itself via the hand / chatbox. Comments on this feed are for the general workshop, and help APTA filter to the right spots if any need specific attention.
The sessions are going great and flying by but do we get a lunch break?
Zooming by, indeed! Feel free to grab a snack during the stretch break, or certainly at any other time you feel necessary. I just poured myself a second cup of coffee! With this 'virtual' platform - we are trying to balance all the time zones we have represented. As early at Hawaii time, to EST.
Is there a session in progress? I can't seem to log in.
If you are logged into the site with your email and the password aptasmp, you can click the "watch now button" found at the top of the schedule listing.
David - call my cell, 312.898.5917 and we can troubleshoot together, or have Peter work with you directly too. Please feel free to submit a 'help' request via the bottom right hand corner of your screen once you log back in to the workshop.
since all the presentations are pre-recorded, will they be available after the conference?
Yes, they will be available to watch on demand for several weeks after the conference.
I joined one of the table top discussions, but only i and another person were in there for the first 5-10 mins so i left. Did I miss the facilitator portion or was there a problem? Thanks.
Marcus - The table topics are accessed via zoom. Recordings will be available for viewing later. You would have to click on the link provided to access. All table top discussions had attendees. Sorry you missed it!
Ok thanks. Strange becuase I clicked on the zoom link and there were two of us waiting. Maybe i needed to wait a few minutes longer for the facilitator to join. THanks.
For some reason, when I click on the link for the MP3 tabletop discussion of Transit speed and reliability, I get into the MP2 discussion instead? Is there a way around this? thanks
We are checking the links.
Me too! Glad I'm not alone. Learning about City Collaboration though - which is okay. But, bummed I missed TS&R.
We're recording everything so you can watch later!
Is there a way to give Tabletop Discussion moderators the ability to mute other participants? We are having quite a few people forgetting to mute and I think it would be very helpful to grant moderators this ability since it's very distracting.
Mark - I'll make sure to flag that as an issue for IT folks and Marcus! That is frustrating
Thanks. Will check with our team and see what we can do
How many agencies are providing branded, reusable facemasks?
That's a great question Andre! I'll see if there is a mechanism for posing questions to all attendees.
Hi Andre - TransLink has a "Wearing is Caring' campaign and we have been handing out TL branded masks to our customers. We also launched masks in our TransLink store, and the adult-sized masks were sold out in a day.
https://translinkstore.ca/collections/face-masks
I was reading about that campaign online. I liked those designs.
I would like to complement the event organizers for constructing such an easy to use platform. Great job!!
Thanks Robert! While there are always hitches to any "first ever" event, we are pleased by how things are going! Glad you are enjoying the interface!
I was looking forward to part one of the Free Ridership talk. unfortunately I lost visual and audio . I am trying to get back in but I am having trouble
Hi Debra, you can email [email protected] and they can help you if you describe the issue. Also, all sessions will be available on-demand later so you can view everything you missed.
This is perhaps a more minor bit of feedback about the UX of MyConferenceNow, but I notice that sections on the various pages here appear as you scroll down, but then disappear as you scroll up. I'm not sure of the purpose of this feature and maybe something out of APTA's control, but it doesn't lead to a great experience since I have to wait for the content to reload when I scroll down, and if I accidentally scroll up too far, the content disappears. It would be easier to work with if the content was just there, and the buttons at the top of the page redirected you to the specific sections as needed.
been noticing that too, since yesterday.
Maybe it's me who is confused, but is the "Table top discussion" the same as the "networking tables"? If so, i cant seem to figure out why the networking tables show people there, but when i join and start chatting, i am the only participant. Thanks.
The tabletop sessions are indeed different. These are more topical sessions in a Zoom Room with facilitators starting the conversation. The Networking Rooms is an additional opportunity to network with other attendees or just hang out. If there are other people at a table you should be able to initiate a video or text only chat.
Ok thanks for the explanation.
When i send a message to another attendee via the "contact me" message option on their profile, do they receive an email, or a direct message? And is this different than the "private chat" that i access from the live presentation page? Thanks.
Related question! I got an email with a question from another attendee about my presentation, but there is zero identifying info in the question - no name or email address. Is that message somewhere in my myconferencenow profile???
I just love the strength and stretch. Thanks for including these!
I agree! Seems cheesy at first, but I've learned quite a few things to help with all the sitting...
